Our Mission - Why BDFA?

More than a Laurel.

BDFA is a selective competition built by filmmakers for filmmakers. We recognize independent films and screenplays for the things that make them memorable -- storytelling, performances, craft, originality, and the willingness to take creative risks.

Every submission receives genuine consideration from our review panel. Official Selection filmmakers receive recognition, promotional opportunities, and the chance to compete for all of BDFA's awards -- without paying additional category fees.

Screenwriters receive individualized feedback based on their script whether they are selected for the festival or not. We know feedback matters in the writing process, and we will help you understand what we saw positive and negative in your script.
